Mark Keshishian & Sons, Inc. is one of the Washington area's
oldest oriental rug galleries. Established in Istanbul in1907 by Mark Keshishian
(1893-1985),and one of his older brothers, the firm moved permanently to Washington, D.C.
in 1931 to its first location at 1214 Connecticut Avenue, N.W. In the following years Mark
Keshishian's constant effort to improve the quality and diversity of product and services
established the Company as the premier source for oriental carpets in the area. His degree
as Master of Pharmacy helped him gain the knowledge in the chemistry of rug washing and
dying which has made the firm a leader in the field for over half a century.
Today the firm has one of the largest and finest collections of antique, contemporary and
collectable carpets, tapestries and textiles in die United States. It is engaged in the
production of hand woven reproductions of various classical types of oriental carpets. In
addition, it owns a modern cleaning facility built within the last four years which
accommodates carpets of any size. The restoration staff is the largest south of New York
City. There are certified appraisers to serve client's needs. The staff also provides
lectures on request covering, all facets of Oriental carpets and their maintenance.
A particular specialty is the restoration, preservation and frame mounting of tapestries
such as Brussels, Aubusson, Beauvais and Goeblin. Estimates of time and cost shall be
given in all restorations.
In 2000 Mark Keshishian & Sons celebrates its 69th year in the Washington, D.C. area
and its 94th year since its inception. The family tradition of highest quality service and
product continues under the stewardship of Mark Keshishian's two sons, James and Harold,
and grandson Mark.
